First it was the Atlanta restaurant - Cafe Dupri - that closed, then his girlfriend (or is she now his ex??) Janet Jackson cancelled half of her recent tour and got dropped from her label, NOW... Jermaine Dupri has been cut as the President of Island Records Urban Division. According to AllHipHop.com, Dupri was let go ASAP but a formal announcement may be made as early as... damn... TODAY! It seems that even though Dupri did well under the new position selling records like Mariah Carey's Emancipation of Mimi - he may have kind of fell off just a little churning out the same successes for the record label's remaining roster of artists. While the complete real reasoning as to why Dupri is now out of a job, the new question remains what will happen to the artists that were signed to the So So Def label? (side note: people still signed to So So Def after the nineties??) We will all be watching to see how this one plays out...
