Yeah, she may be Beyonce's younger sibling, but Solange steps back in the music game this time with her sophomore album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams with a sound of her own! Like Kelly Rowland with her sophomore album, Ms. Kelly, I wish this new Solange album could somehow erase it's predecessor, Solo Star. Where the first album, Solange was still finding her sound, in this new album, she's not only discovered herself as a artist but also proclaiming that "I am Solange Knowles - not to be mistaken for Beyonce!" My all time favorite song (and her's as she told me when I met her) is "Dancing In the Dark". It has a old school meets new school "New York Upper West Side" sound to it and her vocals and lyrics are phenomenal! The two singles that dropped before the album did, "I Decided" and "Sandcastle Disco" are just club bangers but from a different era. While I hate to continuously compare her to her sister, I will say this - just as Jessica Simpson does the music she does, her sibling Ashlee does her own thing and does it well. Same goes here, Beyonce could not have pulled this album off the way Solange did. Solange has found herself in this album and everyone definitely needs to pay close attention and listen! Tracks I'd suggest to listen to over and over: T.O.N.Y, Dancing In the Dark, Would've Been the One, Valentine's Day, Cosmic Journey ft. Bilal and I Decided Pt. 2!
