Sessions With The Prince of All Media | DJ Kingdom
Monday, November 5, 2007 at 01:28PM The "Sessions w/ The Prince of All Media" is a chance for me, your Prince of All Media to bring YOU, my fans new talent in the Entertainment Industry. Please enjoy my first "Session" with DJ Kingdom out of NYC...
I had the chance to catch up with a up-and-coming fixture on the New York club scene, DJ Kingdom. I first heard of Kingdom through Myspace.com and after listening to a remix he did of Busta Rhymes "Where My Eyes Can See". This brutha right has a keen sense of taking a Hip Hop song and remixing it to infuse House, Reggae and Electronic music all into one musical experience that definitely will have you wanting more. If you're a down low fan of Mix tapes that offer more than just Soulja Boy's "Crank That" (even though that's my joint ya'all... "Superman that Ooooohhh!" Lol!), I think you'll enjoy this dude.
Prince of All Media: So Kingdom, let me start by saying that I really like your latest track, Keyshia Cole's "Let It Go" Remix. Are you a fan of hers?
DJ Kingdom: I'm a big Keyshia Cole fan (although I heard she's not so sweet to her adoring fans when they meet her). I was happy she came along because there were so many weak-a** R&B singers getting hit records, while people like Nicole Wray and Yummy Bingham don't even have record deals. She brings a lot of emotion to her songs, so it's good to see her doing well. With the remix I wanted to to take her somewhere new, more futuristic, so I gave the track more of a techno sound. Also, I must say... Kim sounds dope on a club beat.
Prince of All Media: That's great. So how did you get your start in deejay'ing and making mix tapes?
DJ Kingdom: I have always been a fan of hip-hop and dance music. I have been making beats for the past ten years, but I've only been DJing for about 2 years. I also rap and sing on some of my songs, which is something I've only been doing for the past few years. I used to give people homemade mix tapes and started Djing parties soon after that. I made Volume 1 of the official mixtape when I was bored in North Carolina over Christmas vacation last year. I just sat down at my computer and started mixing R&B acapellas with classic house music and UK Grime beats and it just unfolded from there.
Prince of All Media: Ok. So who are some of your musical influences?
DJ Kingdom: Swizz Beats, Timbaland and the Neptunes (but their best work was made pre-2003 in my opinion), Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, DJ Paul & Juicy J, Rich Harrison, DJ Tameil, Terrah Danjah and Davinche (UK producers), DJ Toomp, and DJ Blass.
Prince of All Media: You are familiar with my affiliate website, WhatsTheT.com, right?
DJ Kingdom: Of course!
Prince of All Media: Now where can people who checked you out here on The Prince of All Media's Official Website and those who read my Weekly Wrap Ups on WhatsTheT.com find you when they are in New York and what other venues do you mix at?
DJ Kingdom: I DJ every 1st Thursday at Happy Endings, and every 3rd Sunday at The Cock (both in Manhattan). I also do some other parties as a guest DJ so anyone can check out my myspace page for specific locations and updated info.
Prince of All Media: Will we possibly get to see you in action in Tha ATL or Miami sometime in the near future?
DJ Kingdom: I hope so! Both cities have been putting out some amazing music. I just DJed in Honolulu and Dallas and had an incredible time. I'm from Massachusetts, so I'm also doing a monthly party with DJ Lonewolf in Boston now too.
Prince of All Media: One last thing, where can people find your music at?
DJ Kingdom: My first Mixtape is available for purchase on my myspace page! Also it's available at Opening Ceremony, and Printed Matter in NYC. I know I've mentioned myspace a few too many times now BUT there are usually a few free mp3 downloads on there as well. In fact, I'd love your readers to have my new Keyshia Cole remix, so they can follow this link to download the MP3 for free!
